Greenville, SC: The Greenville Road Warriors announced today the team acquired forward J.M. Rizk from the Alaska Aces in exchange for forward Brendan Connolly.
“J.M. has excellent two-way play that was lacking at times last season,” Head Coach Dean Stork commented. “His hockey sense and leadership is what sets him above most of the players in this league. J.M. is the type of player that will lead by example and is a proven winner with a championship in the CHL.”
Rizk, 27, split his time last season between the Norfolk Admirals and the Fort Wayne Komets. The bulk of the season was spent in Fort Wayne where the team’s assistant captain scored 19 goals and added 15 assists in 66 games played. Rizk played at Wilfrid Laurier University before his professional career took off. The New Liskeard, Ontario native was among the top three on the team in scoring during his sophomore, junior and senior seasons. Rizk was selected by the Minnesota Wild in the seventh round in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft.
“When he was brought up to the AHL, he was immediately used on the penalty kill which is almost unheard of from a call-up,” Stork added. “Not only is he the type of player that is great in the defensive zone but he can shoot the puck extremely well which makes him an asset in all three zones.”
